I imagine a lot of role-players celebrate the season with a special, one-shot Halloween game---something of an autumn palate-cleanser allowing you and your group to step away from the normal dungeon-crawling and dragon-slaying. In the past, run or played in games of Mythos mystery, Ravenloft terror, and even modern horror. This year, I'm going back to Darkness of the Demimonde to run a game for an online group.

I had planned to do an investigation-story, but it is proving to be too large and involved (probably 4 or more sessions), so I'm tabling that idea and going back to something I ran when developing Demimonde. Luckily, I still had a bunch of hand-written notes to work from, so I fleshed them out a bit more for clarification and to provide a deeper story. The scenario had to include a mystery to solve, plenty of danger, and lots of horror tropes. We played last night and the session started en media rez and went well. Everyone seemed to have fun as they encountered some zombies, devilish ghouls, and hellish hounds, and discovered that a lord's "party seance" seemingly went haywire. Or did it? No spoilers! I'll see about getting this scenario into some sort of usable form for you guys to check out.

A quick reminder that DriveThruRPG is currently hosting their annual Halloween Sale---you'll be able to get several RGG titles for 40% off, including Darkness of the Demimonde, Eldritch Tales: Lovecraftian White Box Role-Playing, and the Eldritch Inquirer! If you have a mind to try Mythos investigation with an OSR system, or Victorian pulp-Gothic horror with a simple Tunnel Goons framework, you can jump in on the cheap!
